SubHero has been upgrade to SubHero v2. The addon has been fully rewritten, new domain, new features & fallback local scraper support.
- Better performance, with Rust + Actix as the backend.
- For the nerds 😎 Rust/Actix vs Node.js(JavaScript)/Express
- 24h TTL caching for faster response times.
- New hosting for higher capabilities (the old SubHero hit the free tier limits on Render quite often, which shut the addon down completely until the limit reset).
- Release matching: you can now check a box that requires a subtitle to match the exact release/file you’re watching - otherwise you’ll get zero results. (Great if you want to use SubHero specifically for this and already have other subtitle addons.)
- Release filtering: with the box unchecked, we’ll return all subtitles found, but now sorted with matching releases first.
- Fallback scraper: if sub.wyzie (subtitle provider) goes down, we have a self-hosted variant that scrapes subtitles instead - meaning minimal downtime, hopefully.
- Subtitle format converter: some Stremio clients only support .srt & .vtt, so if the source is .sub, .subf2m, .ass, or .ssa, SubHero will automatically convert it to .srt.
Still has multi language support. Enjoy!
The old SubHero will be deprecated on 30th january. (subhero.onrender.com)
