SubPool gathers subtitles from OpenSubtitles, SubDL, SubSource and Gestdown into a single list and shows, before you pick one, whether it is free or will use one of your OpenSubtitles downloads.
What it does
- One list for all sources. Each entry starts with a tag such as
[SubDL] ✓ Freeor[OpenSubtitles] Uses 1 download. - Free subtitles come first; among them, the ones matching your video's release (BluRay / WEB, release group) are on top.
- Works with movies, series and Kitsu anime catalogs.
- Opens ZIP and RAR archives, converts ASS/SSA to SRT and fixes broken Turkish characters.
- 105 subtitle languages; the settings page is available in 11 languages.
New in 3.9
- Dual-language subtitles: your first two languages on screen at once, the first on top, the second below it in italics. They are built only from subtitles that don't use a download.
- Gestdown source: series subtitles from Addic7ed. No account or key needed. It has no subtitles for films.
- Search and download subtitles: for external players. On the settings page, search a movie or series, pick the season and episode, and save the subtitle as an .srt file.
List settings (all optional)
- Use your other languages only as a fallback: the list shows your first language, and moves on to the next one only if nothing is found.
- Hide machine translations.
- Hearing-impaired (HI) subtitles: show, move to the end or hide.
- Remove sound descriptions such as [door slams], ♪ song lines and speaker names.
- "Test my sources" button: checks each connected source with a search only, without using any downloads.
Setup
- Open the configuration page.
- Connect at least one source: your OpenSubtitles account, a SubDL API key or a SubSource API key. Or turn on Gestdown, which needs no key.
- Choose your subtitle languages and their order.
- Press the install button.
Good to know
- Everyone uses their own account or keys. There is no shared account.
- Your password is not stored on the server. It is kept encrypted inside your personal addon URL, so do not share that URL.
- Viewing the list does not use downloads. A download is used only when you pick a subtitle tagged "Uses 1 download" (a free OpenSubtitles account has 20 per day).
- Existing installs keep working as before; new settings are off until you turn them on.
- The addon is free. Source code is available for review: github.com/MrDiavelin/subpool
